Letter: Public health

The public health issue is very serious problem in Pakistan. The death rate is high as compared to other countries. Mostly, the women and child mortality rate is even higher. The government has taken measures to improve the public health conditions such as malaria and smallpox eradication programmes, immunization and polio vaccination programmes. However, fundamental health units, hospitals new medical colleges have been established and arrangements for the training of nurses and health visitors have been made. Furthermore, there are facilities for expanding medical education at postgraduate level within the country and sending doctors abroad for further research. Despite these measures, the public sector in Pakistan is suffering from many challenges. It is my request to the government to take serious action about this issue.
