Lettee: Dr. Yarjan Samad

Balochistan is considered as one of the most backward provinces of Pakistan due to poor education. However, Dr. Yarjan Samad, who is a Baloch scientist from Buleda (Kech), is the first Baloch scientist. Balochistan is brightened due to his tireless efforts. Therefore, I request the government of Balochistan to provide free scholarships to represent Balochistan more globally. We need more people like Dr Yarjan.

Letter: Deforestation

Gone are the days when our earth was full of forests. Except deserts, the whole land was covered with different kinds of trees which made the air fresh and breathable for human. But, as the humans progressed, slowly the forests got deducted. As result, today deforestation has become a huge challenge for complete world. It is affecting the life on earth in the shape of global warming, climate change and more. However, the absence of tress, on earth, is really a great concern since the presence of harmful gases in the air are increasing. They can lead us in big challenges. The deforestation is rising is all because of the silly activities of human and it needs to be stopped soon. On the other hand, one thing must be known to us that the more we cut down trees, the more we are putting the life in earth in danger. Trees are very important for the environment and for the health of all living things. They give us oxygen, from utilization of harmful gases, which we need to be alive. So, it is good for all living things that we, human should plant more trees and do those things to promote greenery in our surroundings.

Letter: Water crisis in Gwadar

Approximately, 70 per cent of the population of Balochistan has been affected by acute water shortage, and Gwadar has been the worst hit. The Ankara dam was built in 1994 to facilitate a population of 35,000. Since its construction, it has dried up at least four times.

The lack of maintenance has resulted in the loss of its half capacity.

In the last two years, three Chinese-funded dams have been built and two more are under construction as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

However, these dams are not connected to the city yet. Although Gwadar has several beaches, the seawater cannot be used for farming because it is saline and, thus, not appropriate for irrigation. Between 2015 and 2016, a desalination plant provided the city with 1.1 million litres of water against the target of 7.5 million litres.

Currently, there are no operational desalination plants in the city.

Water tankers from the Mirani dam are being used to meet the needs of the citizens of Gwadar.

However, this cannot be a permanent solution to the water scarcity in the area. Time and again, the residents have protested and called upon government officials to resolve the crisis, but all their calls have fallen on deaf ears. The government needs to adopt measures to tackle the water crisis at the earliest.

Letter: Dearth of jobs

A country lacks jobs for its own public which becomes an alarming issue in our country. Most of the people are unemployed, they are not triumphing in any jobs. The educated people are sitting at home and when they go for jobs’ interview and tests, people are several in numbers just for 1 to 10 vacancies, they will become absolutely sad. The parents are educating their children to be self-employed but in these results, they will be unconditionally demoralized. I appeal to the government of Pakistan to give jobs to the people and not sell the jobs to the rich people.

Blog: Dearth of education in Awaran

By: Pervaiz Elahi Baloch

Education, without a doubt, demonstrates a unique role for the development and prosperity of any nation. But unfortunately, Awaran, one of the most ignored districts of the province of Balochistan, has been facing educational woes for a long time. The region in 1992 came to be known as one of the districts of Balochistan, since then tumbling with this issue. The area is located in the south of Balochistan and it shares its border with Panjgur, Khuzdar, Lasbela and Kech.

According to a report by Alif Ailaan, there are a total number of 254 schools in the whole district including primary, middle and higher secondary schools and a degree college, however, yet the zone is deprived of university. Out of 254 schools, 210 are closed, wheres, others are unable to serve quality education due to several reasons as lack of facilities and other reasons. Due to this, the illiteracy rate is increasing with each passing year.

Besides this, there are some villages where schools are not available so far. This is the reason that children in the region are uneducated. Undeniably, youth are the future and coming leaders of any nation, but unluckily, the youngsters of the district Awaran are in hot water because of unavailability of quality education.

Education, indeed, drives one to a bright future. It is the education through which people can change their fate. However, because of dearth of education in the district, its inhabitants are getting involved in worse activities as drugs, gambling, smoking, drinking etcetera which are defective for the health and future as well. Resultantly, the district is counted among the most illiterate districts of Balochistan.

So, it is a humble request to the concerned authorities to pay attention on this serious issue and solve the educational queries as soon as possible. I also request to the parents to send their children to school and make their life better. It needs collective efforts to end educational challenges of the province.

Letter: Ghost employees

In Balochistan, almost every department is full of ghost employees. Secondly, the ghost employees substitute themselves to unemployed persons. Means, they pay a few amount from their salaries to unemployed persons to attend their duties on regular basis so that they should not be caught. This procedure is unjust and illicit. Firstly, those substituted employees who honestly pay responsibilities, get low salary to feed their families. Secondly, those ghost employees, who get a better salary, don’t perform their responsibilities as they are incompetent and they have been selected on political basis. Moreover, unemployment has compelled people to be substituted just for six or seven thousands per month and so far the government has failed to look into this matter. All in all, concerned authorities should take a step to out ghost employees and appoint the substituted employees permanently.

Letter: Ban on hunting

It is an initiative that could not have come sooner, the CM of Balochistan granted a good statement for hunter to stop it onward. Birds are important members of many ecosystems and play a vital function in controlling pests, acting, as pollinators and maintaining island ecology. In place of caring, we are killing their small and new generation in Balochistan. The reason is that we are not critical scholars. Recently in Turbat, a man was arrested because of hunting birds by the administration of the Balochistan government. If they take such litigation, the public cannot do them again this rule must be implemented for everyone.
