Article: Balochistan; the underrated province

By: Mudie Asghar Ali

Everyone is to have equal rights in Pakistan according to its constitution, but Baloch people are deprived of their fundamental rights. Despite the fact that province hosts China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which aims to promote regional development, Balochistan is far from every said prosperity. One thinks if CPEC cannot change the fate of the province, what else can? In fact, the port city itself is away from advancement, other cities are a far cry. Unfortunately, the government of Balochistan has not shown any interest in these issues. To put it bluntly, the Baloch are mostly being bullied like animals in their own homes; they are completely ignored.

Unemployment is a growing problem in Pakistan, but most of the people, who are becoming unemployed, are from Balochistan. In the province, everyone works hard to secure a job, but they remain unemployed because jobs are sold to rich people by the parties and the government. Other remaining jobs are bagged in by the influential and political people.

On the other hand, everyone knows that on May 5, 1998, Pakistan tested its atomic bomb in Chaghi (Balochistan) to check their validity. But Pakistan targeted only Balochistan for the test. Here a question flashes in my mind that why Pakistan did not did test the atomic bomb in other provinces of Pakistan and only Balochistan had to host the tests? What did Balochistan get after the test of atomic bomb?

Balochistan is the only province of Pakistan that produces natural resources. One cannot be wrong to say that Balochistan is feeding Pakistan. Only Quetta has gained little attention, whereas, the rest of Balochistan is under suffering from grave issues. Despite being the richest province of Pakistan, expect Quetta, other complete Balochistan’s electricity is not connected to Pakistan’s national grid station and is getting electricity from Iran. In fact, Iran can cut Balochistan’s electricity at any time and will not provide electricity as we have observed the neighboring country has time to time cut the electricity.

If we take a look at the gas, it is being produced by Sui, the sub-district of Dera Bugti. The gas, it produces, is being supplied to Pakistan and only the capital of Balochistan Quetta and other three districts nearby Quetta but to not to Sui or Dera Bugti itself and whole Balochistan. Sadly, there are areas where people are finding it very difficult to get gas and others are still managed by using wood. In addition, gas prices are skyrocketing in Turbat and other districts of Balochistan.

However, it seems that the Baloch people are not a part of Pakistan and people in Balochistan are struggling for their rights. Therefore, I request the Prime Minister of Pakistan to work together with chief minister of Balochistan to immediately address the issues faced by the Baloch people.

Letter: Poverty on rise in Balochistan

The richest province Balochistan is suffering from various issues including poverty. UNO report stated that 87 per cent of the population is extremely living under poverty line. More than 68 percent of the population is jobless and most of the residents are illiterate. Due to poverty, the people are compelled to do illegal works. Poverty is the major cause by which Balochistan is not developing. By poverty, the people are committing suicide. I urge provincial and national government to pay special attention to the neglected province Balochistan.

Letter: Deforestation is a threat

Deforestation can cause many environmental problems which can make life uncomfortable to live. There are many kind of birds and animals who live in forests with their babies in home but cutting these trees, they face many difficulties, and they can even die.

Deforestation has been a threat to our environment still people are cutting the trees in a large number to fill their pockets. The loss of trees can cause climate changes, soil erosion, flooding and increase greenhouse gases in atmosphere.

Thus, human can stop it when they plant trees where they can stop cutting trees which give human many benefits.

Poetry: I wish wep not the bird….!

Poet: Adnan Maqsood

My birds,
The land of mine,
Real happiness around,
I speak to them,
Listen their soul resting talks,
Life with glory,
Gladness all over my forest,
Different types of birds,
Different color holders,
With different talents,
Each differs from one another,
And all are my birds,
One-day not,
I live without them,
What happened,
Silenced covered my ears,
Darkness covered the greenery,
Birds weeping aloud,
It talks injustice being done,
Other forest eagles ate,
Or murdered my bestie,
Whose presence beautified,
My forest and the birds with joyfulness,
I wep not,
But Wep the bird!
Sinlessness killed his dreams,
To fly high in his forest,
Freely with zero restriction,
It maybe the evil eyes,
Of jealousness,
That attracted outer force,
To inner beauty,
Of my built forest,
For my own beautiful birds,
For the purpose to let them not weep,
All I need is their happiness,
In their own land,
That makes me happy forever,
I wish not this happen,
I wish wep not the bird!

Letter: Women lack rights in Pakistan

Pakistan ranks sixth on the list of the world’s most dangerous countries for women.
According to media reports, more than 51,241 cases of violence against women were reported from January 2011 to June 2017. Meanwhile, conviction rate remains low, with the accused in just 2.5% of all reported cases ending up being convicted by the courts.
According to statistics collected by White Ribbon Pakistan, an NGO working for women’s rights, 4,734 women faced sexual violence between 2004 and 2016 while more than 15,000 cases of honour crimes were registered during that period. There were more than 1,800 cases of domestic violence and over 5,500 cases of kidnapping of women during the mentioned period.

The honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan has recently announced that 1,000 courts would be set up to deal with the cases of violence against women.

It is our humble request the federal government to take a serious action against these monsters and put an end to this evil once and for all.

Letter: Growing illiteracy in Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the advanced countries in Asia but illiteracy rate is growing in Pakistan. Province-wise data suggests that Punjab leads with 63 percent followed by Sindh with 60 percent, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa with 53 percent, and Balochistan with 44 percent. Due to growing illiteracy, Pakistan is suffering from terrible conditions. At last, It is my request to the government to provide educational facilities and make the nation educated.

Blog: A brief history of Balochistan

By: Mehraj Rind (Turbat)

The bone-dry area of Balochistan, arranged at the eastern finish of the Iranian level, is parted equitably between Pakistan’s Balochistan territory and Iran’s Sistan-Balochistan region (a little piece of the southern pieces of Afghanistan’s Nimruz, Helmand, and Kandahar areas are additionally essential for Baluchistan). Balochistan is today at the cutting edge of major international occasions. Pakistan has confronted practically steady disturbance in Balochistan since its freedom, even as it battles to protect and foster the locale with Chinese help.

The port access presented by Gwadar in Balochistan is a significant part in China’s arising transportation network across Asia. Right across the line in Iran, India is attempting to finish Chabahar, its endeavor to answer Gwadar and connection to Afghanistan by circumventing Pakistan. Iranian Balochistan is Iran’s delicate underside, an anxious Sunni district in a generally Shia country, where Saudi Arabia can make underhandedness utilizing bunches like the extreme Sunni Jundallah.

But what might be said about Balochistan itself? How could it come to be separated and managed by different people groups? Shockingly, very little has been expounded on Balochistan. It has consistently been awkwardly sandwiched between the incomparable Persian and Indian domains to its west and east. What’s more not normal for their Afghan neighbors toward the north, who likewise felt the consistent back-and-forth among Persia and India, individuals of Balochistan had no mountains to ensure them. It is a locale without a moment’s delay dismissed, took advantage of and ignored. Balochistan takes its name from the Baloch who occupy it, for the most part Sunni Muslim individuals who communicate in an Iranian language, Balochi, that is strangely characterized neither as an eastern Iranian language like Pashto to its north or a southwestern Iranian language like Persian to its west. Rather, Balochi is a northwestern Iranian language, most firmly identified with Kurdish. It is in this way a question of some guess concerning when and how the Baloch really got to Balochistan?
