Storytime: When will mom come?

By: Muneeb Maqsood,

A few years back, a small family of a bird in the forest lived in a nest on top of a tree. The mother bird had two chicks and it flew from its nest every day in search of food and it was practiced everyday. Once the mother bird flew away and did not return to the nest for two hours. Both small chicks were very hungry and they started licking so that their mother would listen to them and know that its chicks are hungry and waiting for it. Time passed and the mother bird could not return. The words of the mother bird echoed in the mind of one of the chicks that if it takes me a long time to return, don’t wait for me, understand that the hunters hunted me down. Tears fall down while remembering those words.

“I am very hungry.” Said the very tittle chick.

“Just a moment, our mom will bring food.” The other chick reformed the younger one to strive to survive more.

“When will mom come?” The tittle chick asked.

The question chewed on the other chick a lot and forced it to fly and search for food. The other chick was a little bigger and could fly. So, it flew.

About a few minutes later, the sound of some bullets came to the ears of the little one who was waiting for its mother and other bird in the nest. It made him desperate for food. The other bird was also hunted and killed. The little bird failed to survive and then stopped breathing in the nest. The whole family vanished from the world very soon.

The main aim of writing this short story is to let you know that each year billion of animals are hunted. In the fear not to be the victim of hunting, many animals stop searching for food outside. Howbeit, compulsion takes them out and they hardly ever return back to their children. Islam says hunting is acceptable only if you have no food or resources to earn a living, but we have made it our passion and profession. But remember, killing a creature is never a passion, but murder.
