Story: Efforts can change everything

By: Zameer Aslam (Turbat)

It was evening time when Zaid’s mother received a phone call from the principal saying, “Hello, this is principal Kamal speaking and one of the family members of Zaid should visit me tomorrow.”

During that time Zaid was outside the home because he was a roamer boy, he used to wander here and there and backed home late night. But still he was not asked by neither his parents nor anyone else.

Next day, Zaid’s parents approached to principal’s office during the time of the classes and Zaid was called by the peon.

After few seconds principal broke the silence and started complaining about Zaid, “He is a mischievous boy who makes the fellows discomfort, distracted entire class and all teachers do say bad comments about him.”

Suddenly, his father stood and slapped him by not saying a single word. “Sorry but I didn’t call you here to beat him, my purpose was only to give his certificate and take him with you.” Uttered by principal angrily.

Father and the boy were quiet but on the other side a drop of tear rolled on his mother’s cheek and she folded her hands and pleaded, “One more chance, please?”

When Zaid saw his mom crying with teary eyes and requesting principal, this hard situation and the drop of tear brought a huge change in Zaid’s thoughts. Zaid instantly went and stood in front of principal’s table and downed his head with weeping sound said that, “Accept my mom’s teary statement, please? After today you won’t listen any kind of complain about me.”

Seeing the situation, the principal felt weird and said, “Fine, you can leave now.” He left for his class and his parents thanked sir for his cooperation.

That day Zaid came home, denied to visit his friends and left wandering with his friends and ignored them.

He was just in his study room hectic with the course tools. His teachers and mates were amazed to see an immense vary in him. The days were going and due to his efforts, he passed his exam with top marks. The sudden turn of his life twitched everyone.

With the passage of time, a speech competition was announced involving all schools of the city. In this confrontation Zaid also took part with two or three more students from his school. Among all Zaid achieved 1st position award.

For this achievement his parents and principal with two senior teachers were invited in city hall program. They got this high honor or fame just from that naughty boy who bothered everyone also principal was about to drop him out. Fortunately, now they were feeling proud of him.

The ones who denied to consider themselves his schoolmates this time they all were trying to be closer with him.

Lastly, Principal with his all staff members and fellows arranged a program on his name and the other junior and senior students were inspired from him.

Article: Hunger in Pakistan

By: Sana Samad

It is unfortunate that Pakistan is included among the top ten countries where millions of people do not have three times of food and go to bed without having meal. We are progressing, we have a very rich land, and we have Balochistan which is full of natural resources and profiting the entire country. Still, we are listening that a mother sells her children due to hunger. It is estimated that six people out of ten are food insecure.

In the last decade, we have witnessed several natural disasters including heavy torrential rains, floods, earthquakes and long periods of drought causing hunger in the country. Instead of that, the government is not willing to work on the important section including spending less funds on agriculture and fertile lands are to be taken care of by investigating more to produce more and decrease hunger. The people in restaurants, wedding parties, hotels and other places waste a lot food, but never bother them to provide the poor. Around 40 percent of the food is wasted in Pakistan if these foods are given to hunger then we will be successful in eradicating hunger.

According to research, Pakistan ranks third world country where hunger has completely affected the people. The World Food Program estimated that around 43 percent of the population remain food insecure which are resulting in many dangerous diseases. Around 63 country’s population is living in rural areas and they are dependent on agriculture. Despite being productive in the farming still food insecurity is available. The children are dying in the laps of their mother because of starvation.

Earlier in 2015, a huge target was set to finish poverty in 2030, and world leaders agreed to work on this sector and eradicate poverty. Poverty is the main cause of hunger. Nearly 50 percent population of Pakistan is passing their lives below poverty. Only eradicating poverty, the problem of hunger will get finished. It has been almost two decades that Pakistan is in war, so billion of rupees have been spent on eliminating terrorism which is another problem causing and increasing hungers in Pakistan. The government has spent money and gave full attention to protect the people from terrorism, but they have never paid attention on those people who are dying of hunger. Still the hunger are waiting for the support of government. They are waiting, when will they get three times of food , when will they provide food to the innocent children and end hunger?

It is the responsibility of the government to take care of whole problems. Unfortunately, government is not paying attention on other growing problems, and just concentrating to finish terrorism. The other problems such as poverty, child sexual abuse, child labor, child marriage, unemployment and many more. The government is only working to eliminate terrorism still failed to finish the terrorists. Our leaders should work on these problems and ensure that no problem exists in Pakistan.

Letter: Civil hospital needs facilities

CIVIL Hospital Kech is the only source for the people of District Kech to recover the lives of its citizens. But when we have a glance over its basic facilities, it is far like X-ray machine, well experienced doctors and the rooms for the admitted patients are too dirty. However, in admit rooms there is no any single facility except the bed as well in this hospital you cannot find governmental machines, injections, tablets or other treatment materials. The unhygienic environment effects other people and cause dangerous diseases. Turbat is a big city and approximately 50% village people come at Turbat for treatment and 50% people are too poor who are unable to afford the treatment of private hospitals.
It is my request to the government of Balochistan to take actions about governmental hospital and distribute the necessary facilities which are need for a hospital to keep them every moment.

By: Zameer Aslam (Turbat)

This is a fiction Urdu novel book which got published in August, 2010. It was authored by Hashim Nadeem who is from Quetta, Balochistan. He graduated from Cadet College Quetta and in his early life he has written 6 novel books including “Khuda aur Mohabbat” with five others as well as 11 dramas serials as first private producer.

His all books are appreciated and famous to the public among them “Bachpan ka December” is the book in which the character is a small boy who spent his childhood during the winter season of December and freezing weather with his naughty or errant friends.

On the other side, he is in friendship with a girl name (Wajahiya) that he used to call her “Wajho haapi”. With the passage of time, behind every step of boy’s life the biggest hand was Wajho Haapi’s.

Furthermore, the writer also defined Cadet College wholly with all rules and regulations where the boy completed his education. How the life turned its ways amazingly and the Wajhoo haapi became just Wajho. Life taught what the boy owing to one and only single soul Wajho.

As well many times he departed from his family, gallivant chams and Wajho.

So, His effort is really worthy to be part of this book and have the knowledge entirely.

Letter: Library needs more facilities

By: ABDUL AZIZ KULAHO

A library is the basic need of a student to treat his/her mind and a library is the only solution for students to avoid from an evil society. However, if we see other countries, their prisoners are getting books to read in prison but unfortunately, we are not getting books at library for reading and our chairs are not completed due to which students are compelled to sit outside in winter with cool weather and summer with hot weather. This causes many problems and students waste their time in rubbish activities instead of visiting it. It is my humble request to the DC of Turbat to solve these problems of students and enroll them in library.

Article: Power outrages in Makkuran

By: Muneeb Maqsood Ahmed (Makkuran)

MAKKURAN is one of the divisions of Balochistan consisting of three districts in its south; Kech, Gwadar and Panjgur. It touches borders with Iran due to which Iran has been supplying electricity to this region under an agreement between Pakistan and Iran. However, in the recent times, electricity crisis has saddened the people of the region.

Although, Pakistan’s largest project [China Pakistan Economic Corridor] is hosted by the division, it has failed to attain governmental eye. One one side, China claims of multiple developments in Balochistan – particularly in Gwadar– and on the other, we witness people marching to roads in lack of the fundamental necessities of life.

To a greater misfortune, after this long of Pakistan’s existence in Balochistan, the Pakistani state has not taken measures to connect the electricity of Makkuran with national grid station. Like the state has kept afar Balochistan from the other schemes, the state has also ignored Balochistan in terms of providing power which has become a basic need in the given situations.

The agreement of supplying electricity to Makkuran was passed in September 2003 between Iran and Pakistan. The agreement reads that Iran would supply 35 megawatts of electricity to Makkuran per day. However, after 2013, the supply of megawatt of electricity was increased to 100 megawatts per day, but in the ongoing year (and prior to this) there has been a massive outrage of power in the concerned division.

In last month, public of Turbat, Gwadar and Panjgur turned to roads to demand for their basic right of electricity. In Turbat the public went riotous in the month of Ramazan when they broke the car of the concerned officer of electricity of the district and also blocked the route connecting district Kech with the neighboring districts and Karachi. Whereas, the people in Gwadar blocked the main routes as well for several days.

Disappointing for the local population, Chinese are foreigners who are given every facility within Gwadar, but when it comes to them, they vociferate for tiny needs in their own land. The government of Pakistan has always given more priority to others but when it comes to Baloch people, they keep themselves aside. Coming to the provincial government, they were never optimistic for demanding for the basic rights of the people, but of filling up their accounts.

Makkuran possesses a very hot temperature in summer. It averages more than 45 centigrade, sometimes crossing 50 centigrade. In such a hot weather, this bit of power crisis can cause death and suffrage for the people, specially for unhealthy people. Secondly, government has left a large part of Makkuran as unemployed who have began their private businesses which are mostly linked with electricity. In such a case, they gain more losses than benefits. The people of Makkuran want their fundamental right, not “spoken development project” as Southern Special Package. It is yet to observe what strategy will the government apply to curb power crisis in Makkuran.

Letter: Child abuse

By: Pazeer Kechi (KECH)

CHILD abuse has become a horrifying evil in our society. The children at the age of 7 to 9 are being abducted and abused sexually in broad day lights. The recent survey estimated that 8 children are victimized brutally on regular basis in different parts of the country. It is very pathetic anti- social crime, has engulfed the entire Pakistani society. Unfortunately, there is no legal protection for child to be protected from this heinous crime. On the other hand, police is making excuses for not ascertaining sufficient evidences. Therefore, media along with civil society must come up with a joint efforts to highlight the issue. Similarly, the higher authorities must take strong steps to punish the culprits and to formulate legal protections for the children coming outside.
